Winter has come to stay, and believe it or not, your engine may suffer the consequences of the drop in temperature.

At Comercial Méndez we don't want that to happen, so today we bring you five tips for caring for an engine in winter.

1. Check the oil filter

If the oil filter becomes clogged, moisture can build up and freeze in the winter, causing the engine to stall or not run in optimal conditions.

To prevent this, empty the filters' water pan before winter sets in and keep replacement oil filters on hand.

2. Boot warmers

The heaters are an element that only works on cold start and can remain on for a few minutes to facilitate combustion as long as we give them adequate time for it.

The good condition of the starter heaters will cause the engine not to suffer damage and less polluting gas emissions to be produced.

3. Check the engine heater

Engine warmers keep fluids at a good temperature. If it doesn't work, the oil becomes thick. This makes it difficult to operate the machine and, in addition, it is a double load for the battery. Press the engine heater to check it, then feel the hoses to make sure they are hot.

4. Start the engine at least once a month

Avoid starting the machine when it is very cold. Find the time when the temperature is slightly warmer to start the machine and let the hydraulics work for a while.

5. Fill up the fuel tank if possible

If the oil filter becomes clogged, moisture can build up and freeze in the winter, causing the engine to stall or not run in optimal conditions.

To prevent this, empty the filters' water pan before winter sets in and keep replacement oil filters on hand.
